Hanging of Sexton - Louisville, March 27 - John Sexton was hung at Bourborsville today for the murder of George Rowden, the object being robeery. Sexton murdered Rowden last July and robbed his person. The body was found two day later by a searching party on the bank of INdiana creek. Rowden fermerly lived in Indiana but for three years had lived with his brother in Pulaski county. He was leaving Knox, and Sexton decoyed him back by some story and shot him from hehind. Sexton accused his brother-in-law, James Carter, of committin t he murder, and swearing it on him. The people locally expected that he would, before being hung, tell something of the murder of a stranger whose body was found last spring in the same locality.

John Sexton, farmer, is a native of Greene County, Ind., was born Dec. 28, 1835 and is a son of James and Mary (Staton) Sexton, the former a native of Alabama, the latter of Kentucky. James Sexton was reared and attended school in Tennessee, whither he had gone at an early age, and when about twenty-one years of age removed to Kentucky, remained ten years: afterward came to Greene County, this State, and finally to this township, where he finished his eartly course in October 1874. Mrs. Sexton is yet living at the age of eighty-four. She is, as Mr. Sexton was, a member of the Separate Baptist Church. John Sexton received but slight education, having been depended upon to assist the family in the work of the farm during his boyhood. He remained at home, therefore, until he was twenty-six years of age, about which period, September 19, 1861, he married Margaret J. Smith, a native of this county, a union which has been favored with two sons and one daughter. Sixteen years ago, Mr. Sexton puchased the farm where he now resides, and has become one of the representative men of the township. he is a Democrat in politics and he and lady are worthy members of the Christian Church.

William N. Royal was born March 11, 1939 in Tennessee, son of John Edward and Elizabeth Helms. William married Mary Ann Street, January 28, 1859 in Greene county Indiana. She was born Janaury 29, 1841, daughter of William and Sarah Ann Sexton Street. They had eight children: Sarah Elizabeth, Lou, Willie, Mary Ann, Nancy, Joseph, John Abner and Minnie Bell Royal. Those living to adulthoos were Mary Ann, John Abner and Minnie Belle. William ROyal was a Private in Co. D 59th Reg. Ind. Vol. William died August 21, 1879, Mary Ann Royal died October 8, 1921. Both are buried in Ridgeport Cemetery. After WIlliam's death Mary Ann married Jameds L. Brannon and then Samuel Imhuff. Mary Ann called Aunt Pop and Polly lives in the Clyde Collings house southeast of Sylvania church. Around Sylvania she was a midwife. "Always kind and neat as a pin". Her daughter MARY ANN ROYAL marred James Calvin Pool, May 22, 1883, Greene county, Indiana. - - MINNE BELLE ROYAL married Oliver B. Scott in Greene county and they had five children: Frank C., Samuel, Charles, Inez, and Nellie Scott. - - JOHN ABNER ROYAL born January 22, 1867 son of William and Mary Ann Street Royal, first married Martha Jane Fearnot August 31, 1892, Center township, Greene county Indiana. They had three children: Edgar "Ed", Ida Alice and Mabel. Edgar "Ed" married Sarah Clemantine "Clama" Dover Dove in 1914 and they had three children: William Thomas, George Edgar, and Martha Louise was born February 26, 1922 at Marco, Indiana. She married Russell Robert "Jack" Cox July 19, 1941, Bedford, Indiana. They had five children: Anita Louise, born July 20, 1945; Robert Eugene "Bob" born October 19, 1946; Donald Duwayne "Don" born November 29, 1947; Kathy Jean March 19, 1951 and Helen Earnestine, February 22, 1952.
